The Experience of Academic Training Program (PLA) at Thepsatri Rajabhat University, Thailand

On Saturday, 15th September 2018, Farhan Dhiyaa Pratama and Muhammad Adie Maulana left for Thailand to conduct an internship program held by SEA-TVET (Southeast Asia Technical and Vocational Education Training), a corporation which is managed by 11 Ministers of Southeast Asian Education.

We conducted an internship program in 2 different sections in Thepsatri Rajabhat University, I am Farhan Dhiyaa Pratama had an internship program in the Computer Science Department of the Information and Technology Faculty while Muhammad Adie Maulana in the Multimedia Department of the Information and Technology Faculty. Being in 2 different parts made us also got 2 different job desc, I worked on the Face Recognizer project to recognize the faces of people in the IoT room (IoT Lab, Internet of Things, one of the laboratories in the Faculty of Information and Technology) and Adie worked on the logo and profile video project for the Faculty of Information and Technology and taught Photoshop in the Information Technology department.

The project that I made was in 2 versions, those were C # and Python programming languages. I made it into 2 versions because, in the beginning, the instructions of the program were only used on computers in the IoT room, but in the next instruction the program could be uploaded to the website, so I made the program using C # without adding ASP NET into it, it needed to overhaul many things, so I gave the second version, using the Python language to make it easier to upload to a website. In the C # version of the program, users can easily add the face they want to recognize into the name column, but only an administrator can add it. This program also has been integrated with machine learning that can train programs in recognizing someone’s face and can recognize many faces at once. The start button is used to start programs and open a webcam on a computer while the stop button is used to close programs.

In the Python version which is prepared for a program on a website, I made it simpler by only running a compiled Python program, the program will immediately recognize faces by name in the folder/server provided to train the program in recognizing faces. However, before running the program, you must first run a machine learning program in Python to train the program in recognizing faces that are in the folder/server that has been provided.

My colleague, Muhammad Adie Maulana created a logo, profile video for the Information and Technology Faculty, and teaches Photoshop in the Information Technology Department. Adie teaches very well. It was seen from the enthusiasm of students who asked, and the effectiveness of Adie in teaching Photoshop techniques in the classroom. The instruction language which was used was definitely in English. At the end of the teaching process, Adie took a picture together with the students who were enthusiastic about Adie’s teaching activity there.

There were many lessons that we can take from our internship program in Thailand. Most of the facilities we got from the latest technologies that we could try there. Starting from the complete facilities in multimedia laboratories where Mac Computers are available for all students in one class to support processing graphics, broadcasting, and video provided in storage space, and we also tried VR (Virtual Reality) technology which is very sophisticated and is supported by a special computer in processing it when we visited the University of Bangkok.

Finally, we are very grateful to the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, the SEA-TVET program, and Thepsatri Rajabhat University for supporting us in running this internship program. This internship program has given insights, knowledge, and relationships in the world of Computer Science that we can apply in the future. We also invite the readers to be more enthusiastic and motivated to seek knowledge as much as possible because the world is very broad and a lot of knowledge in case we want to try and put our trust in reaching it.
