In order to adapt to and anticipate the dynamic of globalization era, the quality of higher education must be constantly improved. In this regard, the Departement of Computer Science Education collaborates with a number of institutions nationally and internationally. This provides an opportunity for the students to study off-institution. By studying off-institution, students are expected to gain new additional experiences in the form of knowledge, ideas and/or inspiration.
Many explorations of cooperation with universities abroad have been implemented, for example by conducting student exchanges through UPI Directorate of International Affairs (DIA). The university provides opportunities for all students to participate in student exchange programs with national universities as well as overseas. Therefore, all study programs need to encourage students to take part in the program. Activities that the Departement of Computer Science Education students participate are:
MBKM (PERMATA SAKTI, Permata AMLI, Program Bangkit)
The explanation of these programs and their data for the years of 2018 to 2020 is presented in the following section.
Teaching Practicum Program (PLSP) is one of the programs designed by the university for students of education study programs to provide them with excellent and integrated academic abilities in teaching as the basic preparation to be professional teachers. In PLSP activities, students are equipped with experiences to implement learning programs with school students through effective supervision of their supervisors and tutors. PLSP activities can be implemented nationally and overseas. Two types of PLSP program overseas include PLSP in Indonesian Schools Overseas (SILN) and in Southeast Asia (SEA) Teacher program.
SILN are schools under the Educational and Cultural Attaché of The Embassies of the Republic of Indonesia. In general, PLSP at SILN is similar to PLSP program held in Indonesia. Student teachers teach Indonesian students and communities around the Embassy. In the last few years, students have participated in PLSP at SILN in Bangkok (Thailand), Davao (Philippines), Johor Baru (Malaysia), Wollongong (Australia), Singapore, Tokyo (Japan), and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). During the program, which is about three months, students live together with foster family or in school dormitories.
SEA Teacher is an exchange program for teacher students in Southeast Asia. Students participating in SEA-Teacher program have the opportunity to teach at one of the schools in Southeast Asian countries. This program is organized by SEAMEO which is a government organization of Southeast Asian countries. To take part in this one-month program, students are required to go through a selection process. The student teachers’ activities are assigned weekly during the PSLP period (i.e. observe, assist in teaching, teach and reflect). Host universities will provide mentors to supervise and monitor the student teachers throughout the SEA Teacher program.
The curriculum of Science program states that students have an opportunity to do Internship (PPL) in private or state-owned enterprises or government institutions. This program is integrated in the PPL Program course that can be taken in the 7th or 8th semester. During the internship, students implement their theoretical knowledge and gain work experience.
The PPL program can be implemented, both domestically and overseas. In the country, the program runs through cooperation with external institutions, such as stakeholders, public agencies, and private companies. For the last three years, 2018-2020, the Computer Science Programs with 36 institutions with the composition displayed in Figure 1.

Data of students participating in the PPL program in the country for each type of institution is presented in Table 1.

PPL abroad is implemented through a cooperation with DIA. In 2018 and 2019, Computer Science Program joined in Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) - Kemdikbud (Ministry of Education and Culture of Republic of Indonesia) in organizing the TVET internship program as an implementation of PPL abroad. Seven students from the Computer Science Program participated in the TVET Program in 2018 and 2019 in the following universities (i) Thepsatri Rajabhat University, Thailand; (ii) Mindoro State Collage of Agriculture and Technology (MinSCAT), Philippine; and (iii) Capiz State University (CAPSU), Philippines. At the same time, five students from Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology (MinSCAT) and Capiz State University (CAPSU) participated in the TVET Program in the Computer Science Education Program.
This Freedom of Learning – Campus of Freedom (MBKM) program which started in 2020 was intended to provide students with the best experience for at most three semesters (20-40 credits) outside the study program, or in the same study program from different universities (Permendikbud Number 3 of 2020 concerning National Standards of Higher Education). Guideline for the Recognition of Student Experiences in MBKM Program is mentioned in UPI Rector's Regulation Number 007 of 2021. The following is the data of student mobility based on MBKM programs.
1) PERMATA SAKTI
PERMATA SAKTI is a program organized by the General Directorate of Higher Education Kemdikbud to provide opportunities for students to take a maximum of 20 credits (32 ECTS) at other universities joined in a consortium of 39 State Universities in Indonesia.
2) PERMATA AMLI
In line with the MBKM program, Asosiasi MIPA LPTK Indonesia (AMLI/the Indonesian Association of LPTK Mathematics and Science) also initiated a student exchange program, called PERMATA AMLI. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, both PERMATA SAKTI and PERMATA AMLI programs are implemented online. Table 2 and Table 3 present the data from PERMATA AMLI student exchange program in the 2020/2021 Academic Year.

3) Bangkit Program
Bangkit is a program organized by the General Directorate of Higher Education, Kemdikbud, as coaching for students in preparing digital talents from practitioners of Google, Gojek, Tokopedia and Traveloka, and college lecturers. The competencies offered in the program are machine learning, mobile development, and cloud computing (https://grow.google/intl/id_id/bangkit/). Every student who took part in the program can convert activities to a maximum of 20 credits (32 ECTS) in their respective colleges. Moreover, students will also receive competency certification from Google. Student participation is presented in Table 4.

4) Kampus Mengajar (Teaching Campus)
In line with the policies of Kampus Merdeka concerning learning activities at schools, Kemdikbud collaborates with the Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP/Education Fund Management Institute) to organize Kampus Mengajar (Teaching Campus) program. The program aims to support elementary schools affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The activities aim to empower students who live around the school to help school teachers in implementing learning activities, especially in literacy and numeracy learning, as well as assisting them in the adaptation of technology in learning process, both offline and online. Students can convert their activities to 12 credit hours (19 ECTS) in their respective colleges.
Student Community Service Program (KKN) is a compulsory program for all UPI undergraduate students. The program is a course that aims to provide experience in the field of community service, as an implementation of the spirit of Tri Darma. In line with the dynamics that occur at the community level, local government, central government, and global world, the KKN program is currently directed to become an education-based program. Students participating in the program are sent to areas in West Java Province for 40 days. The activities are based on the chosen themes including Family Empowerment Post, Early Childhood Empowerment, and Entrepreneurship. During the Covid-19 pandemic, KKN is implemented in the form of online program. Further information about KKN can be accessed in http://kkn.lppm.upi.edu/.
